2 Things To Check When You Aren't Getting Water From Your Well

If you depend on your well and you notice that you aren't getting any water, there are some things that you can try to see if you can get your water flowing again.

Power to the Pump

One thing that you need to do is to check your well pump to make sure that it is getting power. There are a couple of places that you can check. One is that you can check the pump itself to make sure that any switches or buttons are placed in the ON setting. Another place to check is your circuit breaker. You will need to see if any of the circuits have been switched to the OFF position. If the switch is in that position, the circuit has been broken, and power isn't running through it. So flip it back on and see what happens. If it immediately switches back off, then you should leave it off and do nothing with it. You are going to need a service tech come and check everything out as soon as possible.

Check for Leaks

Another thing that you can do to see if you can get your water flowing is to check and make sure that the pipes between your well and your house, as well as the pipes that are running through your house, are still in good shape. If the pipes between your house and the well are buried, you don't need to dig them up to see if you have a leak. Just walk along the path that the pipes would go along, and see if there are any muddy or soft spots. That can be a huge telltale sign that there is a leak.

Frozen Pipes

If it is cold outside, the problem may be that you have frozen pipes. That can be a little harder to tell immediately. You may have to do a little bit of detective work to find out where the problem is. First, test out all of the faucets, one by one, to see if any of them have water. You can get an idea as to which pipe has frozen by figuring out where you have no water. You can also look to see if any of the pipes have condensation on them or are colder than the surrounding pipes. Once you find it, it's time to thaw the pipes gently. You can use a blow dryer and blow hot air on the pipe, or you can point a heat lamp at the area. Hopefully, that will fix the problem.

If you have tried everything you can think of to try and you still don't have water, then you should call a well company, like Action Well & Pump Repair, and ask them to come look at your well. It may have gone dry or something similar.
